Monster Competition Submission

Well hello, it's been a while. What a way to get back into the swing of using my tablet pen than a competition, eh?

The contest was to create a subterranean monster for a new Runescape quest. I went with throwing mole, turtle, elephant, rhino, cave salamander, and a dash of anthia into a blender and seeing what came out. Actually, the anthia came much later, when I realized that I had drawn all these pore-looking things on its body that had no more use. They were originally going to be heat vents of some kind, but that went out the window. Then, I was thinking about all the dangerous chemicals I work with at my job (lab research assistant), and I though "hey, why not make it spray acid like a beetle?" Thankfully, I do not work with hydrofluoric acid in my job. Take it from the biochemist-in-training in the room - that stuff is nasty. It can cause cardiac arrest through skin contact.

Anyway, back to the monster. I see it mainly attacking with its toenails and teeth, while using the acid as a special attack of some kind, which would poison the attacker as a side-effect. Those wearing metal armor might be at a disadvantage here, since the acid in question reacts with metal rather readily. I dunno, maybe ranged armor would offer the best overall defense... I also see this thing being immune to poison if it's immune to its acid. Perhaps its weakness would be water spells (water could dilute the acid to the point of it being quite a bit less dangerous, and I don't see melee weapons or arrows doing all that much damage against it). I'm just musing at this point.

I'm at the point where I feel the need to back everything up with SCIENCE! It's a mixed bag...

And yeah, there was a height comparison man over on the left, but he ran away...
